YUCATAN
Ethnic group: Mestiza
Donated by Angeles López-Portillo de Stiteler
Woman´s Huipil, 1908
Cotton fabric embroidered by hand with cotton threads of various colors around the neckline and at the hem. Five snaps are sewn around the neckline (two in front, two on the shoulders, and one at back) that were used to affix necklaces. (The snap´s other half would be sewn to the woman´s necklace.) The huipil had minor use and was restored in February 2017. A man from Pennsylvania in the United States bought the huipil during a business trip to Yucatan in 1908.
